ECR session – Career chats on the couch (New programme feature)
The first British Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis early career researcher networking and career development event is to take place at the annual BSHT conference in Aberdeen on the 26th January 2022. If you are planning to attend the annual BSHT meeting, this is an unmissable opportunity to build your thrombosis and haemostasis network and gain valuable career advice from postdoc to fellowship from experts in the field.
There are a series of informal career development talks scheduled from 6.15 until 7pm.
These career development talks will start with a useful guide to ‘preparing for your first postdoctoral position’ given by Dr Timea Fuller from the University of Leeds. This will take you through getting your CV ready, preparing postdoc applications and getting ready for interviews.
The next career development talk will be given by Dr Julie Rayes from the University of Birmingham, who will give a valuable insight into ‘planning, preparing for and applying for fellowships’.
Professor Jon Gibbins from the University of Reading will follow this with a useful guide to ‘building successful collaborations’ to help you learn how to expand your network and form links with other labs and researchers.
The next talk will be a very useful guide to ‘Getting that clinical research fellowship’ by consultant haematologist Dr Paraskevi Untiveros from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Professor Mirela Delibegovic from the University of Aberdeen will conclude the career development talks with an insightful overview of ‘the ECR pathway from PhD to fellowship’ to provide advice and tips on how to get the best out of your years as an ECR.
From 7-7.30pm we will have a discussion panel. This session will be set up as an informal ‘careers on the couch’ session and will consist of a casual panel discussion where members of the audience can ask members of the panel questions relating to their talk and expertise.
A networking event will follow the career panel where we can discuss future ECR initiatives within the BSHT and a casual networking reception with a finger buffet and drinks.
This BSHT ECR event will be the first of many and aims to build a strong and collaborative ECR network within the society.
